Territory Growth Planning Unit

The Territory Growth Planning Unit was established by the Northern Territory Chief Minister, Paul Henderson, in September 2008 in response to the Territory’s rapidly growing economy and Government’s significant focus on planning for the Territory’s future.

Role of the Territory Growth Planning Unit

The Unit includes demographers, economists, planners and other relevant professionals who provide specialist advice on planning for future growth and demand across the Territory.

The Unit’s areas of work include:

Implementation of Territory 2030 – the Northern Territory’s strategic plan that will set the Territory’s direction for the next two decades.
Development of a growth planning model for Territory communities.
Development of a strategic housing plan to support Territorians in affordable buying and renting.
Coordinating government’s service growth responses to major economic development projects such as INPEX.

Working Across Government

The Unit’s collaborative approach means it works closely with other government agencies on high-level government strategy. This is vital in achieving a coordinated approach to the development of the Territory and planning for its significant growth into the future.
