Capitalising on the city’s strategic location, The Darwin Port Corporation is establishing Darwin as a significant transport and logistics centre.
The Port Corporation’s Masterplan 2030 will establish Darwin as a significant transport and logistics centre linking Australia with South-East Asia and beyond and will include staged development plans showing five-year incremental development options to the year 2030.
With the planning of new infrastructure, land reclamation and the East Arm Wharf Facilities the Corporation will be prepared to handle significant expansion in trade. Infrastructure projects will be achieved through the Territory Government’s commitment of $100 million and a further $50 million from the Federal Government for capital expansion works.
Three major capital works projects approved include:
Total trade grew 18% in 2008–09 and is expected to grow by 18% again in 2009–10.
