Since 2001, infrastructure spending has grown by 252% and injected $10 billion into building the Territory and stimulating the economy.
Budget 2012 delivers a $1.3 billion infrastructure spend, including $340 million for housing, $260 million for roads and $111 million to continue upgrading Territory hospitals.
Since the beginning of the global financial crisis, a record $5.9 billion in infrastructure has been invested by the Territory Government to support jobs and the economy, supporting nearly 13 000 new jobs for Territorians.

Budget 2012 delivers a high infrastructure spend of $1.3 billion to support business as private investment begins to flow back into the Territory economy.
This includes $607 million for the capital works program; $380 million for the Power and Water Corporation’s infrastructure program; $217 million for the repairs and maintenance program; and $73 million for capital and repairs and maintenance grants.

Two recent reports have forecast a surge for the Territory’s economy on the back of major projects.
As the benefits from major projects begin to flow through the economy, the Territory’s forecasted economic growth has been upgraded to 4.4% over five years in Deloitte Access Economics' March Quarter 2012 Business Outlook.

The Territory Government has announced it will establish a taskforce to help cut red tape and make it easier for businesses to operate in the Territory.
The taskforce, which will report to the Northern Territory Treasurer, will include key business representatives and be tasked with indentifying ways to streamline government approval processes.

In the next 20 years the economic output of the Territory is forecast to grow by more than 200%. Planning has started to meet the demands for power, water, new roads and other infrastructure that increased population will place upon the Territory.
